Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ' Gully Boy' is refusing to slow down at the box office and is going strong as the movie enters the weekdays. The Zoya Akhtar directorial has struck the right chords with the audience as the film has opened to an overwhelming response and has been liked by the audience and the critics alike. The film is based on the stories of underground street rappers of Mumbai. The young audience is the driving factor for the film. Loosely inspired by the lives of rappers Divine and Naezy, the film released on February 14.
On Monday, the film has managed to rake in a total of Rs 8.65 crore on its fifth day at the box office. The film recorded a drop of around 35% on Monday. The film has managed to collect a total of Rs 80 crore in five days at the box office.
The movie is pacing towards the Rs 100 crore club and is gaining benefit from the positive word of mouth. The film is registering an exceptional business in metro cities.
The plot of the film revolves around Murad (Ranveer), a rapper from the slums of Mumbai, who tries to break free and rise above his socio-economic status with his street rap. Despite being pulled down repeatedly, he beats all the odds to become a successful rapper. Set in Mumbai’s Dharavi slums, the film is inspired by the lives of underground street rappers Divine and Naezy and throws light on Mumbai's rap culture.
